Our video sums up the premise behind Is That All There Is?
Who should come?
ITATI is open to anyone who has a professional interest in the arts, including:
Why should I attend?
For too long ypwld have been marginalised and yet the numbers of ypwld in our society are large – and growing. The arts sector has been challenged by Arts Council England to improve its diversity and inclusivity, including work with ypwld.
The opportunities are great, but many arts professionals are held back by lack of expertise on how to work with ypwld and the restrictions of ‘doing things as we’ve always done them’. The arts sector has much to offer in every area of our organisations: we have creative and technical expertise, as well knowledge of management and administration. ypwld can be involved in all of these specialisms.
Our conference will address some of the fears and misconceptions on extending access to ypwld as we challenge ourselves to embolden our thinking. We will take the chance to network, learning from each other and setting up new collaborations. Together, we can make a movement for change.
Do I have to come for both days?
Yes, attendance on both days is vital as they are interlinked.
Can you help me find accommodation?
Accommodation is not included in your conference ticket, however there are numerous hotels within walking distance of Birmingham Hippodrome. Visit www.birminghamhippodrome.com/plan-your-visit/ for more information. If you need help or advice to find accommodation, email us at firstname.lastname@example.org
Is food included?
Your ticket includes lunch on both days, plus tea / coffee. You will need to make your own arrangements for dinner on Wednesday night and breakfast on Thursday morning. Birmingham Hippodrome is surrounded by a wealth of cafes, bars and restaurants, visit www.birminghamhippodrome.com/plan-your-visit/ for more information.
I already work with ypwld. What’s in it for me?
ITATI aims to give new thinking and challenge expectations for those with an established programme of provision for ypwld, as well as support and encourage organisations thinking of working with ypwld for the first time. Delegates will be encouraged to be more bold in their thinking, and learn about the benefits of working with partnership with other organisations. You will have the chance to see some of the leading creative practice in this field, both at the conference but also at the CanCanCanFestival. Together we hope to create a network or movement that creates genuine change in this field.
Is this conference part of ACE’s Creative Case of Diversity?
Yes and representatives from ACE will be present over the two days to discuss the Creative Case for Diversity in more detail.
Are ypwld involved in the conference?
Yes! BecauseWeCanCanCan, a company made of ypwld, are closely involved with the organising of ITATI. Ypwld will present at the conference and will showcase their visual and performance work.
Are we just talking about artistic work?
ITATI aims to create a shift in both artistic practice AND organisational structures. This is why we welcome delegates with all specialisms, both from the creative side and from administration and management roles.
Will work with the full range of young people with learning disabilities be covered?
Yes. A vast range of young people are included within the broad category of ‘learning disability’. The conference will examine practice across this range, from those on the autism spectrum to those with complex and profound learning disabilities.
Will a range of artistic work be represented, from participatory to fully professional?
Yes. Our aim is to disentangle some of these areas and make sure that they are fully represented and understood by delegates. We will however mainly showcase work of a high professional standard to ensure that we all set our aspirations high.
Can I see any performance or exhibitions as part of the conference?
The CanCanCan Festival is a two-day micro-festival of performance, film and visual art by ypwld. Your conference ticket includes entry to the CanCanCan Festival on Wednesday 9 March at Birmingham Hippodrome. For more details visit the Festival page on this website.
